Main Events in Herceg Novi

February - "Mimosa Festival”, a celebration honoring flowers
One of the most significant tourist-commercial festivities in the are of the former and today’s country. Our city has been celebrating this Festival for 38 years. It was founded in 1969 by the Tourist Association of the Bay of Kotor and the Municipality of Herceg Novi. From 1991, the Mimosa Festival is the member of the Foundation of European Carnival Cities (FECC). The Festival generally takes place from end of January to the beginning of March, however, recently, it has been taking place in February only. The Mimosa Festival is a celebration honoring flowers, most of the all the mimosa flower, which abundantly blossoms during winter in our community while the rest of Europe is covered in snow. It is a celebration which was founded and continues to live on principles of the traditions of carnivals, once very typical for this region, and which is accentuated by young Herceg Novi majorettes and the city band. There are many tourist, entertainment, cultural, sports and other programs within the Festival. During its 36 years of existence, the Mimosa Festival caravan has been in over 50 cities in former and today’s country, as well as in Budapest (4 times), Berlin, Copenhagen, Klagenfurt, Segedin...
February - "Montenegro Mimosa Cup"
An international swimming meeting; it is the most important sports event of the “Mimosa Festival” and, at the same time, one of the most important sports events in the entire country taking place in February
February - "Herceg Novi Winter Salon"
A prestigious art exhibition lasting for 38 years, even longer than the “Mimosa Festival”. In the last 36 years it has always taken place within the framework of the Festival. It usually takes place in February.
February - "Mimosa Cup"

Organized by the The “JUGOLE GRAKALIC” Sailing Club from Herceg Novi.
April - "HAPS" - Herceg Novi April Theater Festivities
According to the original concept, this event gathered the amateur theaters from the entire country. However, from 2002 onward, the majority of participants in the most were professional theaters. It takes place in second half of April and lasts for 15 days.
May - "Male skale" ("Small Steps")
A Festival of children’s music taking place in Bijela since 2004. The organizer is the non-governmental organization “Adut”.
July - "Sunčane Skale" ("Sunny Steps")
An entertainment-musical festival gathering national and international performers. It takes place in July and lasts for 3 days.
July - "Days Of Music"
After several years of hiatus, this festival of classical music is taking place again since 2004 and this time as a 21st international festival. It used to gather mainly young talents, and nowadays, directed by our famous pianist Boris Kraljevic, it gathers renowned authors and performers of classical music from around the world.
July - "The Book Square"
An international book fair which was instituted in the park in front of the Institute “Dr Simo Milosevic”. After that, it used to be named the “OPEN BOOK” and for the past 3 years it bears the name of “The Book Square” again. It takes place in July in the Old City at the Herceg Stefan Square and lasts for about 15 days.
July - "Montenegro Skippers Cup Regatta"
A traditional sailing regatta being organized since 1986 in the month of July. It encompasses the class of “cruisers” and is organized by the “YACHT CLUB” from Herceg Novi.
August - "Herceg Novi Film Festival"
From 1987, the Yugoslav Film Festival takes place in Herceg Novi, the city which had its first movie theater in 1919-1920, the city in which the »LOVĆEN FILM«, from 1951 to 1955, had its best years presenting famous film-makers, pioneers of the film in this region such as Anton Lukateli, Simo Čolović, Stevo Lepetić, Aleksandar Sekulović and Bojan Bazeli, who is today in Hollywood. The founder of this festival is a Herceg Novi born Milan Žmukić. The festival takes place in the first week of August on the Summer stage »Kanli kula« and lasts from 5 to 7 days depending on the number of movies shown.
"August - Mario-Dido Marić" Memorial Swimming Marathon
Takes place in August. It was founded in 1980 and swimmers swim from ŽANJIC to IGALO. It represents the continuation of the tradition which started before the World War II when the marathon took place from ROSE to HERCEG NOVI. It is an homage to professor Mario-Dido Marić, who revived the marathon in the 1980’s.

A traditional sailing regatta Organized by the The “JUGOLE GRAKALIC” Sailing Club from Herceg Novi.
September - "Stevan Kovačević" Memorial, traditional sailing reggata
A traditional sailing regatta which takes place in September and is an homage to Stevo Kovacevic, a long standing president of the “JUGOLE GRAKALIC” Sailing Club from Herceg Novi. Each year the Memorial regatta is jointly organized by the “Jugole Grakalic” Sailing club and the sailing clubs of “Jovo Dabovic” from Baosic, “Lahor” from Tivat and “Delfin” from Kotor.
October, 28th - "Herceg Novi Liberation Cup", sailing reggata
Takes place on October 28, the day when the city was liberated from the fashists. Organized by the The “JUGOLE GRAKALIC” Sailing Club from Herceg Novi.
December - "Winter Days Of Music"
From winter 2004-05, this Festival has its second part in the period from November to January which is also known as the Winter Days of Music due to the period of its running.

February- Kotor: "Traditional Kotor Carnival"
The annual masked carnival of Montenegro in Kotor for children and grown ups, the traditional festivities of the Boka Bay Cuisine, music concerts, theatre plays.

March/April - Stoliv/Kotor: "The Days of Camellia"
In honour of the camellia flower diverse events are organised such as flower exhibitions, fine art exhibitions, theatre plays, the Camellia Ball, the contest of the Miss Camellia...
May - Perast: Traditional Tournament "Shooting of the Roosters"
"Shooting of the Roosters" is a traditional event which is held in Perast each 15th May, symbolising the warrior spirit and skill demonstrated by the inhabitants of Perast at resisting the Turkish attack on the town on 15th May 1654.
July - Kotor: "International Children’s Theater Festival"
Annual Children Theatre Festival with local and international children puppet and theatre plays.
July - Perast: International Festival of Klapa singers (A Cappella Vocal Bands)
The idea of the klapa festival organization rose from the awareness of the need for preservation klapa singing as an important segment of the cultural heritage of Boka Kotorska. By the other side, it seems that the festival of such type can be stimulus to the further development of klapa music, advancing of the existing bands and forming new ones. The International festival of klapas has been performing, since 2002, every year trying to give back life to Perast, just as the traditional celebrations: “Mađ”, “Gađanje kokota” (“Shooting of a cock”), “Fašinada”, etc.
The lights of the reflectors and the harmonious voices of the well trained singers are merged with the “coating” of the old stone walls of the ancient buildings giving them new beautiful glance. Additional info: www.festivalklapaperast.com
July - Perast: "Fašinada"- religious procession of boats
Fasinada is a ritual procession of boats around the Island The Lady of the Rocks on July 22nd
The festivity includes the ritual procession which is made of decorated boats and barges, which traditionally goes around the Island Gospa od Skrpjela in Perast. The event also includes the traditional decant of stones, which are brought to the island by the barges, and then thrown out around the shore.
July - Kotor: "International fashion show"
International fashion show gathers fashion designers from Montenegro, surrounding countries and from abroad, esspecialy the renowned Italian creators. Some of the participants are: Dolce & Gabanna, Pal Zileri, Prada, Armani, Ferre, Versace etc. Beside the devotes of modern fashion trends and nice dressing, on those days Kotor is also a meeting place of businessman, actors, owners of the fashion industries, and other personalities from the world of jet set.
August - Kotor/Muo/Prčanj/Perast: "The International Summer Carnival in Kotor"
Traditional Kotor carnival fiestas are the greatest entertainment manifestation in Montenegro. Kotor masked carnival is visited by several thousands of people. Except the carnival groups from Kotor and other coastal towns of Montenegro, many carnival groups from Europe and the world participate in this manifestation. info: www.kotorkarneval.com
August- Kotor: "Kotor art" Don Branko's music days
Don Branko's music days is the manifestation that is very interesting for the funs of classical and spiritual music. Manifestation is famous for its concerts that are usually held in Kotor churches, squares and concert halls. The devotees of culture are given the possibility to hear many concerts of great world music creators. August - Kotor: ReFresh Festival - Electronic Music, Techno, R'n'B & Hip Hop
Music and dance lovers are gearing up for the opening of the annual Refresh Festival in the ancient city of Kotor. Every year year, the spotlight is focused on the four stages at the Maximus discotheque, which are hosting some of the world's biggest names in techno and house music. August- Kotor: Traditional celebration "The Night of Boka"
The Night of Boka is a boat parade in Kotor Bay with entertainment on all city squares and fireworks.
Event starts with the boat defile, with hundreds of specialy decorated boats, prepared for this event for days. The boats cruise along the Kotor harbor, in a defile, decorated with the lampions. At the same time when the decorated barges move one behind the other slowly, there are numerous parties, music, dance and joyous atmosphere on the Old town squares. At the end of the night the best decorated barge is being chosen, and Boka’s night ends with a solemn fireworks. Cellebration inside Old town ussualy lasts till morning.
November - Stoliv: Chestnut party - NGO "Kamelia"
“Kostanjada” (Chestnut party) is dedicated to Kostanj or cultivated chestnut trees which grow in the forest on the slopes of the hill Vrmac, above Stoliv. Many folk and music activities are organized during this event.
December - Kotor: "Traditional New Year’s eve cellebration on town squares"
Every year, New Year Eve cellebration is organised on a Old town's squares.
